A Santa Rosa firefighter Wednesday afternoon rescued a gray, short-hair tabby cat from the roof of a Cherry Street home where it had been stranded for a few days, officials said.
An emergency call for a "cat stuck in a tree" came in at about 3 p.m., said Fire Capt. Jim Eckhoff, who performed the rescue. When firefighters arrived at the scene they quickly determined that the cat, Nickels, was on a house, not out on a limb.
Nickels' owner said her pet "had been up there for a couple of days," said Eckhoff. "And the occupant of the house said she'd been listening to it for a couple of days."
Eckhoff said neither the home owner nor the cat owner had a ladder, so he pulled a 14-foot ladder from his fire engine and placed it on the eave near Nickels.
"The cat came right to me, so I didn't have to get on the roof," he said. "I think he was a little hungry and tired."
The rescue took all of 15 minutes, he said.
