USAF Major honored by Canada
By NINA LARAMORE / Town CorrespondentMajor Landon Quan, who earned his private pilot license at American Aviation Flight School at the Charles M. Schulz Sonoma County Airport in 1999, and three aircrew under his command have been awarded the Chief of Defense Staff Commendation, Canadian Armed Forces by the Directorate of Honors and Recognition of Ottawa, Canada.
The honor was bestowed for a successful joint Canadian and U.S. Air Force strategy created to protect patrolling Canadian ground troops using a new shared tactical policy. Quan volunteered for an assignment at an International Security base in the middle of Afghanistan from which the joint military campaign was conducted. The international force combined the efforts of thirty-eight countries under one military commander.
Quan currently works in Las Vegas, NV, as an instructor at the United States Air Force Weapons College, where he directs advanced curriculum. His grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Atherton Quan, have been residents of Santa Rosa for sixty-one years. His parents, Captain and Mrs. Stuart Quan, are from San Rafael, California.
