SRJC’s big basketball night
To celebrate Big Eight Conference titles for both the men and women’s basketball teams, Santa Rosa JC is holding fan appreciation night on Thursday at Haehl Pavilion.
In their final games of the regular season, the Santa Rosa teams will play their counterparts from Cosumnes River College. Other highlights of the evening include a raffle, drawings for prizes, a paper airplane contest and a chance for one fan to win up to $100 in a contest dubbed “dash for cash.”
The women’s game tips-off at 5:30 p.m. If the Bear Cubs win, they’ll be sole owners of the conference crown. If Cosumnes River prevails, the two schools will be co-champs.
The local women are the defending state junior college champions. Twelve of the players on the roster starred at Redwood Empire high schools.
The men’s game will begin at 7:30. Coach Craig McMillan’s squad has already clinched the conference title. However, they will be attempting to achieve a milestone. A victory will give them a perfect 14-0 league record.
In this week’s state poll, the men are ranked No. 3 in state and No. 2 in Northern California. This is the first conference title for the men’s program since the Big Eight was formed six years ago.
Six players on this year’s squad come from Sonoma County high schools.
Between games, the state championship banner earned by the SRJC women’s soccer team last December will be unveiled.
