Fast Class: Building a financial portfolio with $25
By MELODY KARPINSKI / Santa Rosa Correspondent
You can do a lot with $25.
It’s a message Bobbie Christensen, along with her husband Eric, has been sending for over 17 years. The Sacramento couple, both former bankers, travel the nation teaching classes about their $25 investment method.
This weekend they’ll stop in Santa Rosa, teaching a weekend class about the method.
“Unfortunately most people think the only way to invest for the future is through their pension plan, 401K, IRA or mutual fund,” said Christensen. “Yet over 800 companies have programs set up wherein you can invest directly through them rather than go through a broker.”
Christensen, who has successfully practiced the method for the entirety of her 30-year marriage, also seeks to make learning fun and easy. “All of my books are based on teaching people things they really need to know, but in an enjoyable way,” she said. Christensen has authored 12 books on financial investing.
Some of the highlights of the class will include the following:
*History of the stock market and how the economy works, including the history of the Dow Jones Industrial Average
*Learn how to turn $25 a month into $100,000 in 10 years by investing in safe, secure growth stocks
*Four steps for finding safe, large growth companies
*How to do it without using a stock broker, but directly through the company’s direct cash purchase program
*How to use this method to build your own retirement fund
*How this all affects your taxes when you retire
Christensen’s class, “Building a financial portfolio on $25 a month,” will be held on Saturday, December 8, from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. in room 1275 Barnett Hall at Santa Rosa Junior College on 1501 Mendocino Ave. Fee: $79.00. Info: 527-4372. www.santarosa.edu.
