The owners of Healdsburg’s Center Street Cafe have opened up a new Santa Rosa restaurant on the corner of Mark West Springs Road and Old Redwood Highway.

The restaurant, simply named “The Locals,” opened on Nov. 2. Owners Mary and Dave Kenady began their Healdsburg restaurant soon after their move from Minnesota to Sonoma County almost nine years ago.

“We came from the frozen tundra [of] Minnesota to this beautiful area in 2005 with no restaurant experience,” said Mary. “We were IT ‘wonks’ [and] we wanted to use our considerable management experience and do a project together.”

Their project became purchasing and upgrading the plaza-situated Center Street Cafe. “We love Center Street Cafe’s funky old building, eclectic diner design, small town charm and friendly neighbors,” said Mary. “But we couldn’t be more excited to start The Locals.”

Both of the Kenady’s restaurants shy away from a corporate feel and all of their food is made from scratch. “We are trying to provide people the kind of atmosphere and food that we ourselves like, and know that others will enjoy,” said Mary.

The Kenadys seek to remain hands-on with their restaurants and active in the community. Dave is a past president of the Healdsburg Rotary Club, and both him and Mary participated in the club’s annual crab feed fundraiser last weekend. The couple also holds a free Veteran’s Day breakfast each year, at both locations.

“The Locals is fun and ever-changing,” said Mary. “A lot of the ‘locals’ have been coming in to introduce themselves.”

Breakfast (which is served all day) prices run from $5.95-$13.50 and include fare like the California Benedict. Lunch prices range from $8-$14, with a menu that includes a wide range of burgers and wraps. Dinner prices run from $14-$25 and include dishes such as salmon and fresh vegetables.

The Locals is located on 90 Mark West Springs Road and is open from 7 a.m.-9 p.m. every day of the year except Thanksgiving and Christmas. Info: 623-9505.

Looked this up because I couldn’t tell what The Locals was and driving by I’m feeling bad because nobody seems to be coming by.

Suggest you get a Restaurant sign up. See you for breakfast.
