The Oakmont retirement community on the northeast edge of Santa Rosa is preparing to celebrate their 50th anniversary in 2013. The community began in 1963 under the development of the late Norwood Berger.

A celebration and a commemorative magazine (written entirely by members of the community) are in the works for the month of September. In preparation, volunteer Oakmont magazine editor Leanne Smith is looking for stories to include in the anniversary issue.

“We are interested in knowing what locals thought of the Oakmont development way back in 1963,” said Smith. “In addition, what [do] they think of it now– almost 50 years later?”

To submit stories or memories, contact commemorative magazine publisher Ed Behen at 338-6018 or edbehen@gmail.com.
