Plenty of food, music and caring at a Jan. 27 benefit for Alexis and Cristina
BY CHRIS SMITH
Plans are coming together for a Sunday, Jan. 27, community meal and gathering to help cover the medical expenses of Alexis Vargas and Cristina Torres, the Santa Rosa cousins seriously injured in a pre-Christmas highway crash in Mexico.

Cousins Alexis Vargas, upper left, and Cristina Torres, upper right, are recovering from serious injuries they suffered in a car crash in December that killed Cristina’s mother.
The benefit is from 2 to 6 p.m. in Finley Hall at the Sonoma County Fairgrounds. There will be food, including “Pasta King” Art Ibleto’s famous fare, and several groups of talented Elsie Allen kids will perform.
A meal will cost only $5. Organizers expect that most of the funds raised for 16-year-old Cristina and her cousin, Alexis, 17, will be generated by a silent auction.
The director of the auction, Donna Waldman, is seeking donations of wine and certificates for restaurant meals, spa visits, massages and other services, movies, plays and other entertainment.
Waldman also said she’d love for supporters to donate something that’s always popular in a silent auction: a meal that a family or group of friends will prepare and serve to a group of perhaps 8 or 10 or 12 people.
To arrange to contribute something to the auction, contact Waldman at:
