Group collecting used mountain bikes for Africa
For the fifth consecutive year, the Santa Rosa chapter of Bicycles for Humanity will collect mountain bikes to be shipped to rural Africa.
On March 9, bikes can be brought to Cardinal Newman High School from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Volunteers will refurbish the bicycles, if needed, before being sent by freighter to Africa.
The bikes will be given to health care practitioners in poor towns to use as transportation in their work.
Cardinal Newman seniors are assisting in the project which organizers hope will result in 400 bikes being donated.
For more information or to schedule a bike pick-up, contact Dave Townsend at dave@santarosapt.com. He is one of the organizers.
