Sonoma County Poet Laureate Katherine Hastings is busy collecting poets and poems for her Poet Laureate project, “Digging Our Poetic Roots.” For this project, Hastings will share poems she collects across various venues, noting the school or movement the poem is from, comments about its aspects and comments by the poet whenever possible. Then she will invite Sonoma County residents to provide a poem of their own. Online venues will include: Word Temple, Poets in the Schools and the Sonoma County Literary Guide. She plans to follow this up with a print anthology of select poems submitted from Sonoma County residents.

All Sonoma County residents are welcome to participate regardless of skill level or age. Hastings, who is also the founder and director of Word Temple, a nonprofit connecting poets and writers to readers, and live and radio audiences, will also invite guest editors to read and select submissions for the culmination of the project – an anthology of Sonoma County poets. Public readings will follow the launch of the anthology, which she anticipates  in late 2015. “This project will exercise the poetic muscles of anyone who participates and increase exposure to the burgeoning community of poets in Sonoma County with celebratory readings.”

Hastings sends out emails periodically, which include poems and prompts to all participants. To sign up for this newsletter and get in on her poetic project, send her an email at submissions [at] word temple [dot] com.

    Hello Katherine Hastings
Our class would like to join the poetic project. What are the guide lines and how do we get started?
    Thank you,
